Refining and testing a ready-to-use system for vessel energy monitoring

Summary

SEATAC is working with BlueGrid to refine and test a ready-to-use hardware system for their marine data monitoring platform, BlueGrid Insights. This project will make it easier for vessel operators to install and use the system without needing technical expertise. By testing the hardware in real-world conditions, refining the setup process and collecting performance data, SEATAC is helping ensure that BlueGrid Insights is reliable and easy to use across different types of vessels. The project also supports more efficient resource use by making it easier for operators to monitor and manage their energy consumption.

Challenge

BlueGrid Insights will give vessel operators a clear picture of how their vessels use energy by collecting and analyzing real-time data. However, the original installation process required technical expertise, which could make adoption difficult for users. To make the system more accessible, BlueGrid set out to create a version that anyone could install quickly and easily. Before launching the product, it needed to be tested on board a vessel to work out any challenges and ensure that data collection and transmission worked as intended.

Outcome

SEATAC is conducting tests at sea to assess how easy the system is to install and how well it performs in real-world conditions. The research vessel is being used to verify that the system functions properly in a marine environment. Data collected during testing helps confirm the accuracy of energy consumption insights and ensures that the system remains reliable in different operational settings. By refining the design and installation process through hands-on trials, SEATAC is helping BlueGrid create a product that is accessible, effective and ready for widespread use. This will make it easier for vessel operators to monitor energy use, reduce waste and contribute to more sustainable marine operations.
